SCHOOL PROJECTS - ATTRACTING THE YOUTH

2nd Boksburg, has recently started a recruiting project. In 1998, we soon realised that the number of boys in our troop were dwindling. This seemed to make some activities impossible. Therefore we organised with the surrounding primary schools, that on their "fun days", which are usually on Saturday mornings we would put up a fun (at the very least for the students) construction project. This gave great exposure not only to our troop but also to scouting in general.

This project had another element to it as well. The Scouters (mainly Hawk and Crow) visited all the primary schools before there fun days, and did a little presentation as to what scouting would involve. This allowed the construction projects to be just an extravagant reinforcing measure. It also allowed 2nd Boksburg to show off their talents at building complex monkey bridges and aerial runways. Another advantage is that budding PL's can pass their construction projects and these projects were actually used, which makes all the effort seem worthwhile.
